Drivography Privacy Policy

Effective date: 17 October 2026

Drivography is run from India.

Summary

Drivography scores how smoothly you drive using your mobile phone's motion sensors and GPS.

What the app uses on your phone

When the app detects that you are driving, it uses:

All of this is processed on your phone. Raw sensor readings, GPS points and trip maps are stored only on your phone.

The app does not use your microphone, camera, contacts or photos, and it does not use an advertising ID.

What we receive, and when

Cloud sync (off until you turn it on)

When you turn on sync, the app creates an anonymous account for you and starts sending a summary of each drive. A summary contains:

We do not receive GPS coordinates, routes, maps, place names or raw sensor readings. Our server rejects any upload that contains route data.

To run your account, we also keep:

The leaderboard only shows you and your friends. Your friends can see your @handle, scores, number of drives and distance driven. Nobody can see your locations or routes, because we do not have them. Anyone who knows your @handle can send you a friend request, and you decide whether to accept it.

Help improve scoring (off until you turn it on)

If you turn this on, each new drive also sends a tuning summary. It contains:

It contains no locations and no raw sensor readings, and it is about 5 KB per drive. We use it only to make scoring more accurate on different phones and roads. If you turn this option off, we delete the tuning summaries you already sent.

Place names (off until you turn it on)

If you turn on place names in Settings, the app sends the start and end point of a drive to your phone's built-in map service to name the drive after the area, for example "Koramangala". Only those two points are sent, and only while the option is on. The names stay on your phone and are not sent to us.

Test versions

If you use a test version of the app (for example through Apple TestFlight), the test platform may send us crash reports, and any feedback or screenshots you choose to send. The platform's own privacy policy covers what it collects.

Where your data is stored

Our servers are in Mumbai, India. We use cloud hosting providers to run them. These providers store and process data only on our behalf and may not use it for their own purposes. Our website and support email are also run by service providers on the same terms.

The app has no advertising or analytics tools in it.

How we protect your data

No system is completely secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum so that there is less to protect.

When the law requires us to share

We may share data if the law requires it, for example because of a valid order from a court or a government authority. We may also share data to protect people from harm or to stop abuse of the service.

How long we keep it

Data How long we keep it
Drive summaries, @handle, friends list Until you delete your account
Tuning summaries Until you turn the option off or delete your account
Server error logs 14 days
Records of uploads our server rejected (no personal details) 90 days
Scrambled network address, used to limit how many accounts can be created 24 hours
Backup copies of the database Up to 30 days
Support emails As long as we need them to help you

When an account is deleted, we keep its old @handle on a list of retired handles so that nobody else can take it. Nothing else is kept with it.

Your choices

Things we will never do

These apply to every future version of the app:

Children

Drivography is for drivers. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.

Your rights in India

We follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act:

For questions, requests or complaints, email support@drivography.com. We aim to reply within 15 days.

If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Beta

Drivography is in beta. The leaderboard is marked BETA, and scores may change as we improve the scoring.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change means the app would send us something new, or share your data with someone new, the app will ask you first.
